National Tutoring Programme

We at Functional Skills Level 2 are now included in the National Tutoring Programme that has been approved by the DfE. The only way children can access this is through their schools and not by being enrolled by their parents as it has to be done by their subject teachers. NTP tutoring for all of the main subjects such as maths, English and science is being offered by MME with the primary target being GCSE aged individuals. This is not to say it won’t expand to others in the future. For parents who may be interested in the additional support for their children, funded by their schools, please approach the school about it directly with MME being the provider.

There are a number of questions that we receive about what this is and how it works, so we would like to answer a few below:

What is the National Tutoring Programme?

The National Tutoring Programme is an initiative created by the government to assist schools in funding to increase the amount of positive learning being generated. The impacts of the pandemic was there to be seen around the world and this was initially started as a way of helping children catch up academically after it, but with the evident benefits and how effective it can be, it has extended further.

How does the funding for the NTP work?

£162 per pupil eligible for Pupil Premium will be given to each school as funding. This can be used for any student as part of the NTP. The opportunity window for this funding is 3 times a year in April, September and December. All schools also have the option to claim 60% of the tuition cost up to a maximum of £18 per hour per student.

Will the NTP tuition be taken online or in person and is it in groups?

There are many options for learners and we think this is a key part of this initiative. There are 1-2-1 in person tuition opportunities and online group lessons. We think it is very important to keep in mind though that the 1-2-1 tuition option will most likely be more expensive in comparison to the group sessions.

How does the dfe National Tutoring Programme make a difference?

There is evidence that this programme has had a positive impact on students outcomes and results, especially for GCSE students.

How does our school enrol for the NTP?

An accredited provider like MME needs to be approached about this and they will guide you through the process.

Here at Functional Skills Level 2 we are here to help as much as we can, so please get in touch if you have any more questions.
